1955 50C PR68 Ultra Cameo NGC. Many of the earliest proof examples of this issue were stored in poly bags that heavily toned the coins--removing them from Cameo consideration--before the Mint switched midyear to the "flat pack" concept. The "wow factor" is enormous for this coin, as tremendous as the piece is rare. According to Tomaska's The Complete Guide to Franklin Half Dollars, "There were two 1955 cameo Franklin varieties struck from original dies that are responsible for some of the most spectacular examples of this date." This specimen offers deeply mirrored, jet-black fields with provide huge contrast with the deeply frosted devices, and there are none of the "milk spots" or haze that would remove the piece from the PR68 grade. NGC has certified 25 coins in this grade, with two PR68 Ultra Cameo and one PR69 Ultra Cameo (4/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
