Beautifully written by M. Prishvin and Illustrated by Fedor Bojankovsky, published in 1952 by The Viking Press. It is a story of two orphaned children who live all by themselves: twelve year old Ann and her younger brother, Peterkin. The story tells of their adventure, despair and lessons of wisdom as they go in search of cranberries which takes them into the Wandering Swamp....so called because of the rich layers of peat formed there by the warm sunlight working on the decomposing plants. Anna wants to go the sensible way and Peterkin wants to follow a more narrow, dangerous trail pas the Blind Break quagmire that is father had once told him about.
The action takes place in one day, it is a fateful, unforgettable day, full of hope, fear, despair and wisdom....the result is a fascinating tale and illustrations with many colored tapestry that the Russians are wonderful in weaving.
80 Pages, Measurement: 10-1/2" x 7-3/4", Book is in good condition with little wear. Original dust jacket has good color with rubbings and slight tears on top and bottom of jacket.
