1951 $1 ICCS "DBL 19" Superb Gem Mint State-66. A conditional rarity with superb luster and eye appeal, showcasing a newly discovered doubled die reverse variety. This coin is the best of both worlds, being an unsurpassable registry level coin, while also possessing a prominent and previously undocumented doubled die reverse, which finds itself recognized by ICCS as "DBL 19". The doubled die on this coin is impressive, and uncommon for the silver dollar series. The "19" of the date has intense doubling, with fully split serifs and a major shift, essentially two separate "19"s slightly from eachother. Although the ICCS insert only makes note of a doubled 19, the coin does in fact have strong doubling on many other parts of the reverse design, such as the hands of the voyageur as well as the paddle which he is holding. The coin itself has a hammered strike and is blanketed in a satiny rolling mint bloom. The surfaces are untouched and mostly blast white, save for a bit of scattered golden toning, and some golden rim toning. A most impressive example and of major importance for anyone building a set of finest certified examples.
