Washington MS67 PCGS.</B></I> David Bowers, in his <I>Commemorative Coins of the United States,</B></I> estimates that more than 94,000 of the 100,017 1947-S Washington commemorative (as well as the '47-P and '47-D issues), were melted. NGC and PCGS have certified about 1,400 Mint State 1947-S examples, mostly in near-Gem and Gem condition. Fewer than 15 coins have been graded MS67, by the two services, and none have been certified finer. Traces of olive-tan dot lustrous surfaces, more noticeably so on the reverse, and the design features are well impressed. A few minor marks on Washington's portrait and the reverse Hall of Fame structure are mentioned for accuracy. Population: 4 in 67, 0 finer (9/06).
