1946 WORLD SERIES CHAMPION RING CARDINALS - WILKS 1946 dated 14k gold World Series Championship baseball ring of Theodore “Cork” Wilks (Ted Wilks). Center diamond of approx 1/4ct set in red. The ring of 14k yellow gold and weighing 16.8g in total. The mount reads "St. Louis Cardinals World Champions". The side shanks of the ring feature the Cardinals "Redbird" logo with the year "1946" inscribed below. The inner is stamped 14K and is engraved "presented to Theodore Wilks from, Baseball Commissioner". The ring has seen little usage wear and the consignor states that the ring has been in the family vault for many years. Manor Auctions is grateful to the descendants of Mr Wilks for their co-operation in the sale of this and other lots in the sale. Theodore "Cork" Wilks (1915 - 1989) was a right-handed pitcher with the St. Louis Cardinals, Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Indians and played over ten seasons (1944-1953). He compiled a 59-30 record in 385 appearances (the most ever as a relief pitcher) with a 3.26 run average and 403 strikeouts. Wilks was a member of two Cardinals World Series championship teams, defeating the St. Louis Browns in 1944 and the Boston Red Sox in 1946. In the World Series he compiled a 0-1 record in three appearances, with a 4.91 earned run average and seven strikeouts. He went on to coach with the Cardinals.
