1945 10C MS66 Full Bands PCGS.<p>The 1945-P Dime is a coin that has achieved legendary status among modern coinage. The rarity of Full Band examples was brought to the attention of dealers and collectors alike in the 1970's by Harold Kritzman, the consignor of this present coin. Very few examples have surfaced over the years that qualify as Full Split Bands. In the notes that Kritzman sent along with the collection he consigned he commented about the 1945-P as follows: "It was in the early 1970's that I realized that the 1945-P Mercury dime with divided central cross bands on the reverse was perhaps the most elusive common date. Able to search through thousands of Uncirculated 1945-P dimes (original bank-wrapped rolls and bags were readily available to me at that time), I found that even partially divided crossbands were a surprisingly small percentage of the relatively high quality of Uncirculated survivors. Using this knowledge, I created a description system to illustrate and market the 1945-P Mercury dime with varying degrees of completion of the center bands. I ran weekly ads in various numismatic publications using the headline 'Common Coins in Uncommon Condition, Mercury Dimes With 100% Full Split Bands.' Most other professional numismatists, with the exception of two or three specialists, had not really embraced the band separation of the Mercury dime and the fullness of strike as an important rarity factor. However, this was to change with the eventual inclusion of a separate "Full Band" listing for Mercury dimes in the Coin Dealer Newsletter and Numismatic News coin pricing guides to which I contributed market pricing information." The coin itself is brilliant throughout with bright, satin-like luster characteristics. Only the smallest abrasions are evident with magnification, and the bands are fully separated all the way across from the left to right side. An exceptional opportunity for the collector.
