(Paris, France, Napoleonic Era, European History)

The Rue Saint-Nicaise plot, also known as the Machine Infernale plot, was an assassination attempt on Napoleon Bonaparte, the First Consul of France, on December 24, 1800. This event followed the Conspiration des Poignards of October 10, 1800, and was part of a series of Royalist and Catholic conspiracies. Napoleon managed to escape the machine infernal blast physically unscathed, but many bystanders were injured and killed.
