1944 Cent, Pollock-2078, R.7?, MS 64 Red and Brown PCGS. Struck from the regular dies of 1944, but on thicker planchet stock. Struck from bronze or some similar copper composition with a plain edge. Listed as 'experimental cents' in the Seventh Edition of the Judd pattern reference, page 223. Some numismatists believe the variety to be a mint error, "the planchets cut from sheets of rolled stock intended for the production of foreign coins" according to Pollock. A lustrous, clean, and bold near-Gem, the orange color faded to medium brown hues across the portrait and the exposed fields.
