1944 Broadway Playbill Signed by Jackie Gleason
1944 Broadway Playbill Signed by Jackie Gleason, Gertrude Niesen, Dorothy Keller, and Val Valentinoff for Follow the Girls. It was September 7, 1944 in New York City. Fiorello LaGuardia was mayor. The war was dragging on and a young Brooklyn-born Jackie Gleason was getting his first big break on Broadway playing "Goofy Gale" in a musical comedy starring singer Gertrude Niesen titled Follow the Girls. That evening some patient theatregoer waited by the stage door at the Forty-Fourth Street Theatre and got four of the actors' autographs in pencil on the title page inside their issue of Playbill. That very issue is offered here and it is almost certainly one of the earliest Jackie Gleason autographs ever offered. The Playbill is 6.5" x 9" and is in very fine condition.
