<B>1943 New York Assay Office Gold Ingot.</B></I> The New York Assay Office opened in 1854 and stayed in operation until 1982. Its primary purpose was to relieve the pressure on the Philadelphia Mint and prepare California gold for bullion for coinage. This medium-sized ingot has the circular imprint of the New York Assay Office at the top of the front side, followed by FINE/999.8. The weight is imprinted on the long right side: OZS 11.65. The top side has the number: 14973. The bottom side has: D1.
