1943 Jackie Robinson Handwritten Postcard & Unpu
1943 Jackie Robinson Handwritten Postcard & Unpublished Photographs (2). Truly special assemblage derives from the personal collection of a young Kansas woman who befriended Robinson while he was stationed at Fort Riley. Best is a handwritten postcard, postmarked "Dec 12, 1943, Kansas City, MO." Addressed to "Miss Reba Caldwell," it reads, "Am being transferred to Texas. Sorry about Christmas. Tell Rose and the rest of the family hello. Hope to run into you again sometime. If not it really was nice meeting you and I wish you the best of everything. Jack." At top he writes his new return address: "Lt. Jack Robinson, 2nd Cav. Div., Fort Clark, Tex." It is noteworthy that it was during Robinson's military service in Texas the following year that he faced a court martial for refusing to move to the back of a camp bus, eleven years before Rosa Parks changed history with her own heroic act of civil disobedience. All ink is 10/10 in boldness, and the postcard, picturing a local Kansas City tourist attraction, presents beautifully. A pair of black and white snapshots of Jackie in military garb (2.75x4.5" and 4x6" respectively) show moderate wear but still offer tremendous visual appeal. LOA from PSA/DNA.
