1943-D<1C> MS68 PCGS. A meticulously struck Superb Gem with full satin luster. A single toning fleck on the reverse near 4 o'clock prevents perfection. Copper was needed for ammunition shells during World War II, which led to the brief use of zinc plated steel during the year 1943. Needless to say, the steel cent was frequently confused in change with the dime, which had nearly identical diameter and color.
