1943 Billy Evans Signed Letter. Hall of Fame hurler Waite Hoyt once called Evans, "...the best, fairest and squarest umpire in the league," an opinion so widely held that Evans joins Hoyt in Cooperstown enshrinement. Evans' death in 1956, and the fact that umpires were not often approached by autograph seekers, makes his among the toughest of contemporary Hall of Fame autographs. This typed letter, sent to National League headquarters in New York by Evans in his capacity as president of the Southern Association of Baseball Clubs, makes reference to fellow Hall of Fame ump Bill Klem and expresses gratitude for an earlier favor. The closing black ink signature rates a conservative 9/10, and the page itself is flawless except for original mailing folds. A rare opportunity to fill a tough gap in your Hall of Fame autograph collection. LOA from PSA/DNA.
