1943<1C> Lincoln Cent--Struck on a Silver Dime Planchet--MS63 PCGS. Since the 1943-dated cents were struck on a zinc-plated steel alloy, they have a gray color similar to that seen on silver dimes. Thus, unlike most Lincoln cents struck on dime planchets, a cursory glance from the non-numismatist could not identify that this piece was struck in error. This Select Uncirculated example offers pleasing mint shimmer, and the sharply struck surfaces are nearly void of marks. IN GOD WE TRUST shows slight spreading and softness, characteristic of the wrong planchet combination. The surfaces have brilliant silver-gray color with splashes of olive toning on the obverse and light champagne on the reverse. Any error involving a 1943 cent is an important offering, due to the popularity of this date as a single-year type coin, and the visibility of such errors that results from the 1943 copper cents.
