1942 5C Type One PR68 PCGS. Nickel was an important metal to the U.S. military during World War Two, and the composition of the Five Cent Piece was modified during 1942 to replace the nickel alloy with silver and magnesium. The two types are readily distinguished by the absence or presence of a large mintmark above the dome of Monticello. Golden-tan and rose hues surround the sky-blue centers of this boldly struck Superb Gem. Gorgeously preserved, and the energetic toning further ensures the eye appeal.
