1942/1-D Mercury 10C Joshua 2 PCGS MS65 FB
As suitable for the grade, both sides of this coin are free of even the most trivial surface blemish. Delicate beaming white iridescence overlays every feature, but the underlying mint frost in undiminished in intensity, fresh, dancing, inspiring to anyone familiar with this very difficult overdate in Gem condition. The devices are fully struck, and so complement the luster, with the all-important central crossbands split straight through the middle. There is a faint hairline die crack that can be traced from the cap's fold to about the area of the cheek.

The 1942/1-D dime arose out of the Mint's frenzied production schedule during the Second World War. To save a moment in time, an unused 1941-dated die was given a second blow from a 1942-dated hub before being shipped west to the Denver Mint. This overdate lay undiscovered until 1962, and, as such, high quality examples are rarely seen in today's hobby. (#5041)
Joshua II Collection
