1941 Lefty Grove Presentational Humidor
1941 Lefty Grove Presentational Humidor Recognizing 300th Victory, from Eddie Collins. A key component in the second great Athletics dynasty under the reign of Connie Mack, Grove found himself a new home in Boston when the money ran out in Philly and the Hall of Fame roster was scattered to the winds. An arm injury forced Lefty to reinvent himself as a pitcher upon his arrival in Boston, trading blinding speed for pinpoint control and a sweeping curve, and soon he was back at the top of the League's ERA leaderboard. Here we find a gift presented to the Hall of Fame southpaw by his old A's teammate and fellow Cooperstonian Eddie Collins, who had this simple yet attractive humidor engraved for the occasion of Grove's 300th and final victory. The charming inscription reads, "Mose, For Your 300th Game, From Mabel and Eddie Collins, July 25, 1941." The Collins' names are rendered in facsimile autograph format. The bronze vessel stands just over six inches in height, with a diameter of four and a half inches. No noteworthy condition flaws. Included in the lot is a signed letter of provenance from two of Grove's grandchildren. A remarkable artifact linking two of the greatest pre-war Hall of Fame icons.

Shipping: Miscellaneous Collectibles, Larg (view shipping information)
