1940s Rainier Special Export Flat Top Beer Can
Featured in this lot is this vintage, 1940s Rainier Special Export flat top beer can from Sick's Spokane Brewery Inc. in Spokane, Washington. Early in 1883, Seattle brewers Hemrich & Kopp opened their doors. The plant underwent advances in brewing and plant growth as it transitioned from producing steam beer to lager and finally became the Bay View Brewing Co. Then, in late 1892, arrangements were made for the Seattle Brewing and Malting Corporation to be formed by the merger of the Bay View factory with two other facilities. When a beer brand was therefore required to distinguish the new company's merchandise, the name of the peak that dominated the southern view was selected. On January 10, 1893, "Rainier" was adopted as one of the brands for the new firm, and soon became their flagship mark. The can shows a white background with gold accents with "Rainier Beer" in red lettering with a gold accent outline. Below that it reads, "Pale Special Export". The bottom of the can shows Mt. Rainier with, "Sick's Spokane Brewery Inc" in black and white lettering. On the very top of the can in black lettering it reads, "Rainier Beer". The can shows good condition for its vintage age with no dents or creases. There is a very small hole on the bottom that was used to drain the contents of the can. The can measures 2 5/8" in diameter and 4 3/4" in height.
