<B>1940's Craig Wood Signed Photograph, PSA Gem Mint 10.</B></I> Despite two major Championships (the 1941 Masters and US Open), Wood is probably best remembered as the victim of Gene Sarazen's famous double eagle in the 1935 Augusta National Invitational (now known as the Masters). That shot would leave the two players tied at the end of regulation, and Sarazen took the contest in the ensuing playoff. The future Golf Hall of Famer was believed by many to be jinxed until his historic 1941 season, often finding himself in second place in heartbreaking losses. Wood remains a consistent winner in the autograph market, however, and the very rare occasions when his signature surfaces in the hobby inspire fierce bidding. Here we present what may well be the finest Wood signed photo ever presented at auction. The marvelous 7x9" portrait of the legend at work is blessed by a black ink inscription and signature rated a perfect Gem Mint 10 by PSA/DNA. The photo itself shows minor toning at the top edge, but is otherwise free of noteworthy flaws. The original recipient of this rare prize was a noted golf pro Harry Obitz, who played in the 1932 British Open and taught golf to everyone from the Duke of Windsor to eight U.S. Presidents to Jackie Gleason and Ed Sullivan.
