4pp. letter from George K. McCaslin of the 193rd Pennsylvania Infantry, Company E, to his brother. Letter, written in ink and datelined ''Baltimore / The 8 1864,'' reads in part: ''…I receifed your leter day be for yesterday And was glad to hear that you ar geting Along so well with the things. We ar in camp near Baltimore or withn 4 miles of it their has ben a Great many soldiers in theis woods since we came 75000 men of and on their is some comeing and a going most every day their some…from Dellware and Philadelphia…Is Arte…out the lane as mutch as he did or is he mareed yet. or is he going to enlist for a year…Well I reckin you would like to here a bout our trip well we left camp…And we traveld all night and we had to lay over once and while…we got to baltimore and…in the morning we marched to Camp we struck our tents and have been here ever since and cant tell when we will move…i dont haft to drill any only draw grub for the compney Well i will try to get an order for my pensionn…tell Jocke that i would like to hear from him and rest of folks well i would lik if you would send me some postage stamp if you please. Well…when you write…tell me where Rob is or if they hear from him any…And let me no what the harvisting cost you…If you get that money you can use it…'' McCaslin mustered into Company E on 19 July 1864 and mustered out four months later on 8 November 1864. The 193rd Pennsylvania Infantry guarded bridges around Baltimore, Philadelphia and Wilmington. First page measures 5'' x 8''; second page, 3.25'' x 5''. Pencil notation to first leaf. Mild fading to ink and light overall toning, otherwise near fine condition.
