Scarce 7.5 x 9.5 inch paper window display for Gum, Inc.'s 1939 War News Pictures gum card set. Issued on the heels of the very successful 1938 Horrors of War set, the 1939 War Pictures set expounded on the Great War, issuing cards during the years of 1939 and 1940. To entice youngsters to come in and buy packs of cards, these window displays were produced, with each display featuring a large image of an actual card with a brief description. This example is called "Blasted Pigs!," a replica of card No. 80, which portrays the French army using pigs to dig for landmines planted by the Germans, thus helping the French troops advance along the Moselle River. Slight rippling with light glue stains and an area of paper loss on the reverse. However, no holes are seen, and this rare piece would frame out and display very nicely. Comes with an example of Card No. 80, which is in GOOD condition, with light back damage, but has an EX/MT appearance on the front.
