1939 New York World's Fair Art Deco Serving Set
1939 New York World's Fair Art Deco Serving Set. Four identical cups and a matching one-handled pitcher make up this novel souvenir from what is perhaps the 20th century's most famous international exposition. The exterior of each piece is covered with a stippled burnt orange glaze upon which is a raised, creme-colored tablet reading, "NEW YORK WORLD'S FAIR 1939" in dark blue type. Illustrating the text are the fair's trademark needle (The Trylon) and globe (Perisphere), also rendered in blue. The base, marked "JAPAN", employs a creme glaze as does the interior of each item. The pitcher is 7.75" high; the cups are 4" high. This historic set is as-made. An attractive and utilitarian addition to any collection of fair memorabilia.
