1939-40 New York Rangers Team Photograph Signed
1939-40 New York Rangers Team Photograph Signed by Lester Patrick. From the turn of the 20th century Lester Patrick played a large role in the history of organized professional hockey, first as a player and later as a coach and executive. Taking over coaching duties of the New York Rangers in 1926 in place of the exiled Conn Smythe, Patrick saw immediate and abundant success. winning the Stanley Cup in only the organization's second year of existence. Patrick continued to pilot the team until 1939 when he stepped down to concentrate on his duties as general manager. Rare 8x10" photograph depicts the Stanley Cup winners from the 1939-40 season and still identifies Patrick, who has signed a glorious 10/10 black fountain ink signature, as one of the team's coaches. Furthering the historical significance, this is the team that many attribute are the originators of the dreaded Curse of 1940. Having paid off their mortgage for Madison Square Garden, the Ranger management burned the deed in the cup of the Stanley Cup trophy, consequently angering the Hockey Gods and preventing the team from lifting the Cup again for another 54 years. Attractive piece with outstanding appeal. LOA from PSA/DNA.
