<B>1938-S:</B></I> An interesting and unique original carving, this is a "1938-S Buffalo Nickel" depicting Thomas Jefferson. Obviously, this creative unknown artist has expertly altered the date, probably from a 1930-S or 1936-S, to read 1938, the first year of the new Jefferson nickel. This Above Average carving is nicely done and the coin was "antiqued" afterward, giving it a rough texture. Jefferson's hair is true to the period and his jawline is nicely accented.
