1938-S 50C Oregon MS68 PCGS. While official Mint liter
1938-S 50C Oregon MS68 PCGS. While official Mint literature lists James Earle Fraser's Conestoga wagon scene as the obverse, standard numismatic practice is to display Laura Gardin Fraser's Indian-and-map design as the obverse. The wagon side has the date and the Indian side has the mintmark, traditional obverse and reverse signifiers, respectively. On the other hand, many collectors believe Laura's design to have superior aesthetic value, and the full-length image of the Indian is far closer to a traditional portrait than the "going west" scene.
Terrific, frosty luster cascades from the virtually perfect surfaces of this gorgeous Oregon commemorative. Each side of this well struck half displays silver-gray centers with colorful antique-gold, red-violet, and jade-green arcs at the rims that add dazzling hues to the scenery on each side. Wonderfully appealing and an excellent candidate for a high-end silver commemorative type set. One of nine examples in this grade certified by PCGS, with none finer (3/07).
From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
