1938 Minneapolis Millers Team Signed Photograph with Ted Williams. On his final stop before the Show, a nineteen-year old Ted Williams made American Association history, becoming the first player to win the league's Triple Crown with a .366 average, forty-three homers and 142 runs batted in. Saddled with a youthful temper to match his tremendous skills, Williams became famous in Minneapolis for his outbursts, once shattering a glass water cooler with his fist after popping out, giving his teammates an early shower and almost ending his career when a shard of glass barely missed a nerve in his hand. It's been said that manager Donie Bush became so frustrated with the brash youngster that he told the team owner Mike Kelley, "Either that kid goes or I go." The reply: "We're going to miss you, Donie." Both the future legend and his manager are among the twenty Millers to sign this 8x10" photo issued for "Radio Appreciation Day" at Minneapolis' Nicollet Park, establishing this as among the earliest Williams signed baseball images in the hobby. While it must be noted that The Kid's autograph matches the others in its 2/10 to 3/10 boldness, it does remain fully legible and unmistakable. A few scattered creases are likewise noted, but, as with the light signatures, one must forgive imperfections in light of the great rarity and desirability of the piece. LOA from PSA/DNA.
