1938-D/S<5C> MS67 PCGS. OMM-2. Luminous apricot and steel-blue colors embrace this beautifully preserved Superb Gem. The legends and the bison's head are well struck, and only the bison's shoulder and a portion of the upper braid of the Native American do not have a full impression from the dies. Since only the Denver Mint struck Buffalo Nickels in 1938, S-mint reverse dies were shipped there for use. Little did the mint officials realize that the subsequent overmintmark strikes would one day be coveted by collectors. Population: 97 in 67, 0 finer (3/05).
