1938-D 5C MS68 NGC. As the only mint from the fina
1938-D 5C MS68 NGC. As the only mint from the final year of issue, the 1938-D nickel was widely saved in Mint State. Although slightly scarce in lower circulated grades, AU and lower Mint State coins are readily available. The story is quite different in the loftier grades of Mint State, such as the MS68 we offer here. Indeed, NGC and PCGS combined have certified only 16 pieces at this level of preservation, with none finer (1/05). Moreover, our auction records indicate no specimens have been offered at this grade level by the major auction houses in the past ten years or so. Medium gold patina, with crimson and yellow-gold accents on the obverse, dominates lustrous surfaces. The design elements are exquisitely well struck, and there are no apparent marks or other blemishes on the pristine surfaces. This magnificent piece is sure to draw the attention of Buffalo nickel specialists. Population: 10 in 68, 0 finer (1/05). Lot:6047
