1938-D 50C MS67 NGC. The so-called "short set" of Walking Liberty half dollars was created by the album publishes, such as Whitman and others, long before the days of coin certification. Back in the old days, when collectors actually placed their coins in these different albums, two physical books were required for the complete collection of Walking Liberty half dollars. One particular album set had one volume for 1916 to 1933 half dollars, and the other for the 1934 to 1947 series. Short sets exist because some collectors simply didn't buy the first volume, and only concentrated on filling the second volume.
The 1938-D is the key to the 1934-1947 short set, and it is the only issue within the set that had a mintage of less than 1 million coins. This Superb Gem piece is fully lustrous with frosty silver surfaces that are enhanced by lovely peripheral iridescence, deeper on the reverse. Census: 18 in 67, 0 finer (6/07).

Coin Engraver: Adolph A.
