1938-D 50C Boone MS68 PCGS. Following the commemorativ
1938-D 50C Boone MS68 PCGS. Following the commemorative market bust of late 1936, mintages for designs struck in multiple years continued to fall. In 1938, the three Mints coined just 6,300 pieces between them, 2,100 examples each, a number that approaches the infamous 1935/1934 Denver and San Francisco Boone halves. Most of the 1938 Boone sets made their way to speculators, which contributes to the number of high-grade survivors known today. Still, only a tiny fraction of pieces achieve the MS68 designation. Soft silver-gray patina covers much of the surfaces of this shining, elite example. Slivers of gold and lavender patina grace the bottom of the obverse, while the top of the reverse has crescents of orange and magenta with a trace of cerulean at the rim, as well as similar, though fainter color near the date. Immensely appealing and nearly perfect to the unaided eye. Population: 2 in 68, 1 finer (2/07).
From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
