1938 50C New Rochelle MS68 PCGS. According to Wal
1938<50C> New Rochelle MS68 PCGS. According to Walter Breen, there were fifty presentation pieces struck of the New Rochelle issue. These were stuck with a single blow from polished dies on a proof planchet. While business strikes produced from fresh dies will also be somewhat prooflike, they lack the sharpness of the present specimen, especially on the hide of the calf and the central base of the rose. The dies have been heavily polished on the present coin, which has a forest of faint die polish lines (as struck) in the reverse field. Both sides display a sparkling, snow-white appearance without a hint of color. There is a wispy handling mark between LL in DOLLAR. One of only two New Rochelle Halves that have received an MS68 grade from PCGS (4/05).
Ex: New York Signature Sale (7/02), lot 5083, which realized $19,550.
