<B>1938 50C New Rochelle MS67 <img border='0' src='http://www.heritagecoins.com/images/star.gif' width=10 height=10> NGC.</B></I> Gertrude K. Lathrop, designer of the New Rochelle half, studied under famed sculptor and fellow commemorative half designer Gutzon Borglum in 1918 and received more intensive training in 1920 and 1921. The design that appears on this stellar Superb Gem reflects Lathrop's combination of instruction, talent, and more than a decade of practice. Cherry-red, plum, and gold-orange patina graces much of the obverse in a partial tab pattern, while the reverse has orange and peach colors with a trace of emerald patina.
