1938 50C New Rochelle MS67 PCGS. Of the 25,000 New
1938 50C New Rochelle MS67 PCGS. Of the 25,000 New Rochelle half dollars minted (plus 15 assay pieces), nearly 10,000 were melted. Surviving specimens are mostly in Mint State, usually around MS63. The Superb Gem that we offer in this lot displays radiant luster exuding from frosty surfaces that are devoid of any mentionable marks. Hints of golden-gray patina roll over each side, with splashes of sky blue on the obverse. The design features are well struck up, with only the highest area of the iris on the reverse being slightly soft. This and the highest part of the calf on the obverse typically exhibit weakness on the New Rochelle. Population: 117 in 67, 2 finer (1/05).
From the Bruce Scher #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set. Lot:4170
