1937 Dated Mauser Commercial Contract Banner Luger Pistol Serial Number 4000v

This is an example of a very a scarce mid-production Commercial contract Mauser Banner Luger pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger. The top of the chamber is dated 1937 and it has the standard Mauser Banner trademark on the toggle. This pistol falls into the range of those generally considered as a standard commercial Luger that was neither intended for sales outside Germany or Europe, nor a military or Police contract. The left side of the barrel extension, the underside of the barrel and the left side of the breech block are all stamped with a single "Crown/U" commercial proof acceptance mark. The pistol is numbered in the military fashion with the desirable serial number of "4000" stamped on the front of the frame, underside of the barrel and the left side of the barrel extension with the last two digits "00" stamped on various small parts. Blue finish with straw colored small parts and fitted with checkered walnut grips marked "00" on the inside of each panel and a unmarked blue folded sheet metal magazine with an aluminum base marked with the full serial number "4000" on the bottom.

Very fine. The pistol retains 90% of the custom commercial high polished blue finish with wear on the edges and high spots, wear on the side plate hump, some thinning on the grip straps and a distinctive purplish tint to the blue finish on the barrel and side plate, typical of the commercial blue finish produced by Mauser during this time. The various small parts retain 90% of the straw color. The grips are very fine with some light handling wear and crisp checkering. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
