1937-D 5C Three-Legged XF45 ANACS. FS-020.2. This popular Buffalo nickel variety was supposedly created when a new Mint employee was removing clash marks from a working die, and accidentally scraped away the lower portion of the bison's front leg. This example seems better struck than average, with sharper-than-usual detail on the Indian and the peripheral lettering. Light wear and scattered small abrasions define the grade. The coin is satiny and attractive, with deep olive-gold toning over both sides.

Coin Engraver: James E.
