1937-D 5C Three-Legged MS65 PCGS. A numismatically int
1937-D<5C> Three-Legged MS65 PCGS. A numismatically interesting and famous variety, resulting from overzealous die polishing by a mint employee (Mr. Young), to remove marks from a severely clashed die. The detail of one of the Buffalo's front legs was rubbed away; hence the term "Three-Legged." Mint State specimens are highly sought after by collectors, as most known examples were released into circulation. This coin is one of the finest this cataloger has ever seen. Lovely hues of sky-blue, lime-gray, and tan are noticed on the obverse; the reverse is mostly sunset shades of red, magenta, and gold near the leftside border, with bright blue-green toning to the right. The strike is very bold and uncommonly sharp for this rare issue. The surfaces seem immaculate. It is hard to imagine a finer example of this immensely popular variety, which is quite well known even outside of numismatic circles. Population: 44 in 65, 4 finer (6/06).
From The New York Eye Appeal Collection.
