1937-D<5C> Three-Legged MS64 PCGS. This is a near-Gem with impressive eye appeal. Both sides are replete with frosty luster. Light gold color covers both surfaces with splashes of pale blue and peripheral iridescence. A sharply struck specimen, although the usual minor weakness is evident at the center on each side. This example has all of the characteristics of the genuine three-legged die state, with a trail of light die dots curved beneath the bison's flank. The entire animal is slightly smaller in stature, well away from the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The 1937-D Three-Legged nickel is one of the few issues known to most casual collectors, along with other famous items as the 1909-S VDB cent and the 1804 dollar.
