1937-D<5C> Three-Legged MS63 PCGS. Sharply struck and highly lustrous, with gleaming satiny surfaces that are well above average. The finish is bright which seems significant when considering the words of David Lange (2000): "Most mint state examples have just so-so luster, since the eroded state of the dies resulted in coins having very diffused light reflection. Examples having bright and pleasing luster are rare." This is just such a coin, that also exhibits hints of rose and golden patina. When the lack of surface blemishes is noted, one may question the assigned grade of this piece. It seems likely that soft striking near the centers may have been a factor, but it should also be mentioned that a similar degree of incompleteness has not prevented other Buffalo nickels from being graded higher. A conservatively graded example.
