1937 50C Roanoke MS68 PCGS. Founded in 1587, Roano
1937 50C Roanoke MS68 PCGS. Founded in 1587, Roanoke was the first English colony within the future United States, although St. Augustine, Florida, was settled by the Spanish earlier that century. While PCGS reports 12 Roanoke Halves at this stellar level of preservation (1/05), we doubt whether any of the other coins can compare with the incredible eye appeal of the present example. Multicolored toning adorns the obverse in crimson, magenta, orange, emerald-green, antique-gold, and cobalt hues. No less impressive lime-gold patina covers much of the central reverse with a few swirls of magenta-red and blue-green color intermingled here and there. Razor sharp striking definition and coruscant mint frost round out this coin's list of positive attributes. A silver Commem that must be seen to be fully appreciated.
From the Bruce Scher #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set. Lot:4176
