<B>1937 25C Doubled Die Obverse AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Strong doubling is seen on IN GOD WE TRUST and on the date. The Third Edition (1994) of <I>The Cherrypickers' Guide</B></I> indicates that less than 12 examples are known in all grades of this very rare variety. PCGS has since certified 38 examples in grades Good 4 to Mint State 66 (some of these are likely resubmissions); we have offered 24 examples within these grade ranges over the past four years that we have kept track of 1937 Doubled Die Obverse appearances. Whatever the exact population, the rarity of this variety cannot be denied. The high-end AU specimen offered in this lot displays ample luster and just a touch of light gold color. The design elements are exceptionally well struck, and the surfaces on both sides are quite clean.
