Provenance:

A single page taken from an autograph book, with signature of the envoy of Germany to the Irish Free State, Dr Eduard Hempel, who was appointed to his post in Dublin by Adolf Hitler in 1937. He continued to represent the Third Reich in Ireland until 1945. It was Hempel who accepted Taoiseach de Valera and President Hyde to his residence in Dun Laoghaire when they presented their condolences on Hitler’s death. Hempel remained in Ireland until 1950 when he returned to Germany to oversee the development of the Federal German Republic’s diplomatic service. Also with signature of Spanish minister to Ireland during the Second World War on reverse.
