<B>1936-S 50C Rhode Island MS67 NGC.</B></I> This shimmering and slightly satiny Superb Gem showcases the distinctive design of the Rhode Island halves, rendered by stonecutter John Howard Benson and silversmith Arthur Graham Carey in their only attempt at commemorative coin design. Orange-gold at the rims fades to bands of aqua-cyan, which give way to rose-gray centers in turn. Only 14 examples have been graded at MS67 by NGC, and neither NGC nor PCGS has certified an MS68 or finer piece.
