1936-D 50C Cincinnati MS67 PCGS. The Cincinnati Mu
1936-D 50C Cincinnati MS67 PCGS. The Cincinnati Musical Center Commemorative actually did more to celebrate the extensive contribution of the area to music than commemorate some particular event that happened 50 years prior in 1886. The obverse displays a portrait of Stephen Foster, while the reverse sports the personification of music in the form of a woman playing the lyre. These were issued right at the peak of commemorative craze that swept collectors of the 1930s, and most were not very carefully saved in their original paper holders. In fact, almost none are found in the upper Gem grades as seen here. This is certainly a memorable example of this issue, with a bold strike and outstanding mint luster. A lovely mix of low intensity golden-brown, powder-blue, and magenta patina occupies each side. This is one of the very finest to survive for collectors today.
