1936-D 1C MS68 Red NGC. A common date that was saved in roll quantity, the 1936-D is not difficult to locate in most Mint State grades. As with all Wheat Cents, however, precious few examples are extant with truly pristine surfaces. Devoid of even a single distracting blemish, this lustrous Superb Gem is fully deserving of the MS68 designation. The color is a deep, rich, reddish-orange shade with delicate lilac highlights at the obverse rim. Frosty in texture, every feature is boldly detailed. Only two 1936-D Cents have been so graded by NGC and PCGS, and, not surprisingly, there are presently none finer (1/05).
From The Kim Mitchell Collection, Part Two. Lot:5540
