1936 Casey Stengel Handwritten Letter from the Casey Stengel Collection. A very personal letter to Casey's mother discusses a worrisome job situation, as he had just been fired at the close of the '36 season by the Brooklyn Dodgers after a third consecutive losing campaign. He begins with talk of his drunken father in law, "...The father got a load on today & they have him down town trying to sober him up. Guess he will be o.k. for Thanksgiving..." and closes with his recent employment woes, "...I have not signed with anyone; have not heard about my contract but will lay idle if I have to pay back all my salary from another job. I intend to take care of that business but I know best for a number of jobs will come up later during season if I don't get what I want. Well love & good health to all and stop worrying about my job. Your loving son, C.D.S." Five pages (three sheets, front and back) are written in NRMT pencil, with paper showing original mailing folds but no condition issues otherwise. Also included is original mailing envelope with "Brooklyn National League Baseball Club, Inc." return address, and ink handwritten "Mrs. L.E. Stengel" mailing address that qualifies as an autograph of sorts. LOA from PSA/DNA.
