For sale in this lot is a vintage embroidered Olympic patch from the infamous 1936 Berlin games. The patch shows the symbolic Olympic torch, with the polychrome Olympic rings in the foreground. In 1931, the International Olympic Committee awarded the 1936 Summer games to Berlin - The choice signaled Germany's return to the world community after its isolation in the aftermath of defeat in WW1. For the first time in modern Olympics, the games were met with protest from the United States, and fellow allies in Europe. The movement ultimately failed, allowing the Nazis to accelerate their Aryan propaganda, culminating in World War 2. The patch from the historic games is in good condition, it does show some edge fray, and subtle staining. The patch measures 2 3/4" across.
