1936 5C Type One--Satin Finish PR68 PCGS. Gorgeous ice-blue tinting overlays both sides with a splash of pale lilac color toward the left obverse rim. The full strike is all that one would expect for a proof, and there are no distracting blemishes on either side. The Philadelphia Mint resumed proof Buffalo Nickel coinage in 1936 after a hiatus of two decades. Approximately two-thirds of the coins from the 4,420-piece delivery are believed to have been produced with a satin finish (per Lange, 2000). We agree with this estimate, but we stress that the survivability rate among the 1936 Type One is much lower than that of its similarly dated Type Two (Brilliant Finish) counterpart. Population: 19 in 68, there is only one finer (10/02). Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour.
