1936 5C Type One--Satin Finish PR67 NGC. The 4,420 proofs minted in 1936 were of two finishes, satin and brilliant. The type one finish is a hybrid finish, slightly matte, slightly brilliant, an intermediate step between the old finish of the teens and the new return to the brilliant finishes of the Shield and Liberty nickel series. This type is slightly scarcer than the brilliant proofs of this year. The present type one example offered in this lot is exceptionally well struck, with no discernible weakness. The satiny surfaces display waves of pastel yellow-gold, violet, orange, lavender, and sky-blue patination, and are virtually unblemished. This coin has super eye appeal, sure to attract the attention of the most fussy Buffalo nickel collector.
