1936 50C York MS68 PCGS. The Congressional legislation authorizing the issuance of a half dollar to commemorate the founding of York County, Maine provided for up to 30,000 pieces to be struck, of which 25,000 were minted, plus 15 assay pieces. Ten thousand coins were reserved for Maine residents, who in fact bought over half of the total. Specimens are readily available today in grades MS60 through MS66. Higher Mint State examples are extremely difficult. The MS68 example offered in this lot is nearly untoned save for a swath of rainbow toning around the left obverse border. The design elements are well struck up, and virtually pristine surfaces are devoid of any mentionable marks.
