1936 50C Cincinnati MS67 PCGS. Ex: JFS Collection. Stephen Foster, the man depicted on the obverse of the Cincinnati commemorative halves, has a slightly more concrete link to the musical heritage of that city than most writers claim. Rather than being "merely a bookkeeper" during his time in Cincinnati, he actually penned several hit songs of the time, including the classic "Oh, Susanna." Still, for a coin commemorating an event that supposedly took place in 1886, Foster was an odd choice, since he had died 22 years earlier.
The surfaces of this exquisitely preserved piece display pale iridescent haze over each side that deepens to reddish-gold near the rims. Vibrant luster shines beneath. A delightful Superb Gem, worthy of the finest commemorative collection. Population: 2 in 67, 0 finer (3/07).
From The Cary & Cheryl Porter Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
